Repentance 2
If someone repents (changes their mind) of an action, but then continues in the action, did they really repent? People imply that repentance is of sin or evil. This is not always the case. When God repented, it wasn't from sin and it didn't stop there, He took action of His changed mind. Gen 6:7. True repentance will always have proper action to confirm the change in mind. This is why Paul never speaks about repentance in his epistles with regards to salvation from sin, and why repentance is not required to be saved. Only believe the gospel of the cross and put our trust in that alone. Scripture confirms this in many places.
Jer 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
Jer 26:3 If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.
Ezek 14:6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.
Ezek 18:30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Jonah 3:9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Acts 26:20 But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
While to repent may mean for some just a change in mind, the above verses tell us it always seemed to be accompanied by some change of action, Otherwise no mind/heart change has taken place. And that it is not always related to sin, seeing God repented. The verse used in II Cor 7 is talking to believers to repent and change their ways. Even Paul said he repented in vs 8. It had nothing to do with getting saved. Vs 9 is equivalent to "work out your own salvation" not to get saved but live holy. If repentance is necessary for us to be saved, (changing our mind) I believe Paul would have made that very clear in his salvation message throughout his 13 epistles. But he did not, not even once.
