5 major keys to Bible study are:

1. Believe the scriptures (1 Thess. 2:13)

1Thess 2:13 KJV   For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

2. Search the scriptures (Acts 17:11)

Acts 17:11 KJV   These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

3. Compare the scriptures (1 Cor. 2:13) 

1Cor 2:13 KJV   Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

4. Consider all the scriptures, especially those written by Paul (2 Tim. 2:7)

2Tim 2:7 KJV   Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

2Tim 3:16 KJV   All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

5. Rightly divide the scriptures (2 Tim. 2:15)

2Tim 2:15 KJV   Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
